British Rowing Championships
The British Rowing Championships takes place every year. In general, once every four years the event is held at Strathclyde Country Park, the other three years it is held at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont (Nottingham). It is a major event for club rowers and some schools also participate, however, because its position in the British Rowing calendar means that it is held when most public schools have ended their year, some of those schools choose not to compete. Events are held for open, women, open junior, women's junior, under 23, lightweight, adaptive and coastal boats.
Each crew member of the first, second and third placed crews in each event receive gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. The club champion in each event (i.e. the highest placed non-composite crew) also receives a wooden club champions plaque to display in their clubhouse. The names of the winning crews are recorded in a leather-bound book which has the names of all National Champions since 1972. Each page of this book has been photographed and is available to view on the (British Rowing Championships website ).
In 2010 the Regatta adopted the title British Rowing Championships to reflect the change in name of the Amateur Rowing Association to British Rowing. The logo and branding now reflects that of British Rowing.
The 2006 and 2010 Championships were held at Strathclyde Country Park in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 the event was held at Holme Pierrepont. The 40th anniversary of the Championships was celebrated in 2012.
== Future of the Championships ==
A decision was taken in 2012 that in order to raise the standard of senior competition, the senior events from the Championships would be moved to autumn from 2013.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.britishrowing.org/news/2012/may/4/british-rowing-championships-chairmans-view )〕 The junior events continue to be held on the July dates.
The 44th Championships will be held on:
* 18-19 July 2015 at Strathclyde(Juniors)
* 17-18 October 2015 at Nottingham (Seniors).
Although it has been the practice to date for the Championships to be held in Scotland at the Strathclyde Country Park every fourth year, the 2014 Championships was held in Nottingham. This was because Scotland hosted the 2014 Commonwealth Rowing Championships at Strathclyde Country Park. The 2015 Junior Championships will be held at Strathclyde Country Park.
